Common Questions
Membership FAQs
Can I apply directly for Fellow without holding a lower grade?
No. Fellowship requires holding the Senior Member grade for a minimum of three years in good standing, or formal nomination by a current BILPM Fellow for truly exceptional cases.
Is BILPM recognition the same as a qualification?
No. BILPM recognition is professional recognition of competence and conduct — similar in concept to MAPM (APM), CEng (Engineering Council), or FCMI (CMI). It is complementary to formal qualifications, not a replacement for them.
How long does the application take?
Assessment typically takes 4–8 weeks from receipt of a complete application. You will be notified within 5 working days of submission to confirm your application has been received.
Can my employer fund my application?
Yes. Many employers cover the cost of professional recognition as part of their learning and development budget. Contact us for a corporate enquiry pack.
What happens if my application is unsuccessful?
If your application is not successful at the grade applied for, BILPM will provide written feedback and may offer recognition at a lower grade where appropriate. You may reapply after 12 months.
Do I need to renew my recognition?
Yes. BILPM recognition is maintained annually through the CPD declaration process. Lapsed recognition can be reinstated by completing the relevant CPD requirements.
